CFL Betting Preview: Season Insights and Key Trends

As we gear up for another exciting CFL season, it's crucial to reflect on past performances to make informed betting decisions. Here's a snapshot of the key trends from the last three seasons:

2022 CFL Season Overview

Although the Toronto Argonauts won the 2022 CFL Grey cup, it was the Winnipeg Blue Bombers who led the pack in 2022 during the regular season, boasting a formidable straight-up (SU) record of 16-4, and an against the spread (ATS) record of 12-9. The Calgary Stampeders and BC Lions also had strong performances, with respective SU records of 12-7 and 13-7. However, teams such as the Edmonton Elks and Ottawa Redblacks struggled, both recording an SU of 4-14.

Despite an inconsistent season, the Hamilton Tiger Cats still managed to put up a fight with an SU and ATS record of 8-11, which includes playoffs.

CFL Home and Road Records

When betting on the CFL , it's essential to consider a team's home and away performance. Over the last three years, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been a dominant force at home, both as favorites (17-9 ATS, 23-3 SU) and underdogs (3-0 ATS, 3-0 SU). The Hamilton Tiger Cats have also had a strong home favorite record with 16-9 ATS and 20-5 SU, but their performance as home underdogs was fairly limited yet successful (2-1 ATS, 2-1 SU).

The Calgary Stampeders have shown resilience on the road, boasting a 10-4-1 ATS and 7-8 SU as road underdogs. As road favorites, the Hamilton Tiger Cats (8-4-1 ATS, 9-4 SU) and the Saskatchewan Roughriders (9-4 ATS, 10-3 SU) have also shown strong performances.

CFL Over/Under Records

In terms of the over/under (O/U) record, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers tend to lean towards lower-scoring games, particularly at home, with an O/U of 8-18 as home favorites and 1-2 as home underdogs.

On the flip side, the Hamilton Tiger Cats have had mixed results, with a slightly higher-scoring trend as home favorites (12-13 O/U) but a lower-scoring trend as road favorites (5-8 O/U).

Looking Ahead to CFL 2023

As we move into the new season, these historical trends provide valuable insights for bettors. While the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Calgary Stampeders, and Hamilton Tiger Cats have shown consistent strength, it's worth keeping an eye on underdogs like the BC Lions, who could potentially upset the odds.

Remember, past performance is not always indicative of future results. It's important to stay informed about player injuries, team strategies, and other factors that could influence a game's outcome. Happy betting and enjoy the season!
